Although gum health problems could be easily avoided by adding brushing and flossing to daily routines, gum disease or periodontal disease has become one of the commonly ignored diseases that affect millions of people. Only few noticed the complications being linked to gum disease. To name simple ones, these include the halitosis and development of morning breath, vulnerability to infections and diseases, and wounds or swelling in the mouth. Severe ones include bone tissue deterioration, teeth loss, and higher risk of coronary diseases, effective endocarditis, and stroke. Literally, gum diseases do not cause or proliferate to other body parts but the bacteria behind the disease do. In fact, once these bacteria reached into the bloodstream, it can post threat and facilitate in further deterioration and damage to other body organs. The heart, being the one pumping blood in and out of other body parts, can become susceptible to disease. Although there may no study pinpointing gum disease bacteria to cause heart problem, its presence in the bloodstream will surely deteriorates our total health condition. Aside from brushing and flossing, increasing water intake can also help in control of bacteria. Water is needed to produce saliva, which contains enzymes and oxygen to hamper anaerobic bacteria mainly responsible for periodontitis.
