However research had been linking gum disease and heart disease, it has been discovered that the harmful bacteria that causes gum infection is also the same bacteria responsible for certain cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke. Since a harmful bacteria that is responsible for gum disease is not eliminated, it can spread to other parts of the body by entering the blood streams. That’s why pregnant women are also at risk of having a gum infection due to hormonal fluctuations and a weak immune system, resulting to premature and low –weight babies.
