Menopause is the stage where a woman stops producing some hormones which may be the cause of hot flashes and dryness that even this symptoms may appear on gums. Result of scientific investigations explains that the cause of “dry mouth” in this stage of many women over 45 is the lack of hormone called estrogen. The lack of estrogen level will make the saliva acidic, and this acid seeps calcium, magnesium, and potassium away and the effect would be gum disease and tooth decay. A therapy is needed to this problem. Estrogen can be replaced or supplied as well as calcium. Maintaining healthy bones, hormonal balance, vitamin D, eating dairy products and green, leafy vegetables helps in dental health especially during menopause. Daily intake of this vitamin and minerals will prevent gum disease.
