Anime swords are often fashioned after katana swords; however, they take on supernatural and magical qualities. They need to because they are used in the battle of good forces against evil. Despite their potential violence, some of them have beautiful, and almost poetic, names. Ichigo Kurosaki’s sword is called Zangetsu, which translates to “Moon cutter.” There are some anime swords whose names give no hint to their great power. For instance, Yubashiri, or “Running Snow,” can cut a table in half. A couple excellent grade swords, which are far more powerful than regular swords, are innocently named Ichimonji (”The Straight Road of Peace”) and Suushi (”Autumn Rain”).
